En el marc de la Matèria Transversal “Els enginyers i el seu entorn socioprofessional” coordinada pel professor Guillem Boira, el proper dijous 30 de març, a les 19h, a la Sala de Graus de l’Escola Politècnica Superior, es durà a terme la ponència:

Sergio Callen has more than 13 years of diverse engineering experience in the United States, Asia, and Europe participating in several railroad projects, developing rail business opportunities and liaising with clients. He has specialized in E&M engineering and systems integration for high-speed rail, subways, light rail, and advanced guideway systems.

His experience includes coordinating fixed facility and operating system interfaces to ensure the infrastructure is designed to railway system and facilities specifications and currently serves on the American Railway Engineering and Maintenance-of-Way Association’s Technical Committee 17 on High Speed Rail Systems, which develops and publishes information pertaining to high-speed rail development best practices.

On his current role at Atkins North America he is directly responsible for operations and business development activities in the North American market for Rail, Aviation and Ports Alternative Delivery projects.

Mr. Callen’s experience includes:

- Enterprise Asset Management Reliability Center Maintenance, LIRR , New York, NY. Project Manager,
Integrated Service Information and Management for B Division System Requirements, New York City Transit (NYCT), New York, NY. As an Atkins’ Project manager he conducted review of system requirements for the integrated service information and management system for NYCT’s B Division with reference to the developed concept of operations and DOORS requirements repository.


- DBFM Ottawa LRT (Canada): concessionaire’s technical engineer.


- DBFOM Purple Line LRT, Baltimore, Maryland, concessionaire’s technical engineer.


- Florida HSR DBFOM, Orlando, FL. Provided technical assistance in the procurement of the rolling stock supplier including specifications development, systems integration with the signaling and communications supplier, evaluation of product offerings, and contract specifications evaluation including RAMS requirements.


- DBB Girona HSR (220mph) 3.1 miles tunnel and Station, Spain: responsible for the Tunnel ventilation and fire protection final design for this segment double tunnel underground connecting with an intermodal station. In addition to this role, he was in charge of defining all the interfaces with the systems and subsystems (including civil work, track, signaling, communications, fare collection, rolling stock, O&M requirements).


- Design and Construction Management to upgrade a 110miles segment and 12 stations for the New High Speed Rail network, Spain. Responsible for preliminary and detailed design of rail systems and station facilities, including construction management technical assistance. Acting as a systems Integrator for the construction phase of the project assuring all the interfaces and design, operating and maintenance requirements defined during the design phase were being followed.

- DBFOM Metro North line in Dublin, Ireland. Responsible for system interfaces coordination.

- Moscow subway extension, Russia: responsible for Tunnel ventilation final design.
